I would like to thank Luca ICTBlog for having reported this event and of course his blog for publishing my article on fluorescent lamps!
What is it? Well, "Field" is the name of 'installation by English artist Richard Box resident at the University of Bristol (UK), a work certainly unique.
I'm talking about hundreds of fluorescent tubes driven into the ground (1301 final installation in 2004), and tension between the pylons of the very, almost magical event, thanks to the electric field present near the conduits, these tubes give off a glow: well an image of a no effect?
The explanation is much simpler and thus can be read on the website of the artist:
fluorescent tubes, of the very under-voltage cables are crossed by an electric current that fails to excite atoms of mercury vapor present ( see here ) which emit photons in the 'UV, then converted into visible light by phosphors Covering the inside of the tube. This is because the pipes are crossed by the electric field is created between the conduits, which normally delivered 400kV (400000V) and the earth, usually voltage zero.
Well certainly an extraordinary event in terms of emotional and certainly a bit 'in doubt No effect on the effective electric fields on health (the subject of much debate) makes them come, even though the will of the artist, as he said there is no intention to take sides on this issue.
What do you think?
