The LED lighting I believe represent the future state of facts is a matter determined. Further evidence of a renewed desire for change in this direction, you go to pull over to as many initiatives in various European cities, and not, is what is happening in the Big Apple:
As you can read it online at the NY Times, the New York Department of Transportation has made contact with a major study of American light design, the 'Office for Visual Interaction, that are thought of new poles for street lighting able both to accommodate the new LED source, is all the signs needed to make a livable city.
The idea is, of course, to replace the entire fleet of 300 thousand Pali road, but initially, considering also the large sum of money that will be awarded, will be installed only 6 poles demonstration, after which the town will decide in NY which direction procedre.
For my part, as I have said in lines Luxemozione, I believe that LEDs represent the future course (this is indisputable), but I also believe that only now have reached a state of the art that they can compete with ' traditional lighting, especially in the road: one can speak only of the amount of light emitted, but the luminous efficiency, operating temperature, glare, distribution of flow. We often fills the mouth with the "guaranteed lifetime of the LEDs and 50 thousand hours" ... it certainly allayed if properly, and then do not forget auxiliary electronics required switching of the LEDs: whose average life span of operation in environments ideal is far from 50 thousand hours.
We recommend I give a 'look at the original article where you will also find a link to a previous article by the same author, which are made some interesting reflections about the LEDs, you will find some inaccuracies, but nothing to do with the stuff that can be read in on our national press, where everything or almost everything is treated as gossip last summer, where there is no desire for further study, but only to put here and copy paste from wikipedia.

Welcome back (I suppose
Yes, LEDs are the future.
Only that we are all sick in a hurry, and if we say that we will house decent LED bulbs only between 3-5 years, it seems an eternity.
Maybe I'm wrong on the numbers, but I'm sure though when we look back we will see that everything will be successful very quickly.

Good evening, is the first time I visit the site and I do compliment. I worked for 10 years as a lighting designer on the provision of lighting environments and I find your articles very interesting because competent, written with simplicity without ever being banal and in an informative and forward-looking to the future.
Unfortunately I do not know your names, I wish you and ... keep up the good work!
