LAMPS, LED

Now we only talk about LED lighting, talks about business, talk about the media, he speaks at universities. Fashion I would say!

Well, talk is one thing, using them properly is another. Who is in design with LED light sources should be aware of some unique aspects of this spring, aspects that could affect significantly the ultimate target, perhaps by turning good design into a bad design.

Not everyone knows that talking about cold or warm white LEDs from 350mA is often not sufficient to describe qualitatively the light emitted. Because the semiconductor manufacturing process, in fact, the main producing aziede (Lumileds, Cree, etc.) LEDs divided into groups (bins) that identify the quality of color, flow and operating voltage, then shows each LED, depending on the 'company that produces it, a label that identifies it according to these 3 parameters.

This classification is then extended to all products, from UV LEDs for use in dental, led to the Monochromatic, of course, the White LED which will deepen the conversation.

When it comes to white LED (White LED) particularly interesting is the question about the apparent color of light, commercially distributed enterprises PRDOTTI White Freddo (Cold White), White Neutral (Neutral White) and Warm White (Warm White), but the question is a bit 'more complex.

To simplify a bit 'Take for example the explanation of the Lumileds K2 (for the Cree discourse is similar).

So K2 is an LED that is sold both in verisione "white" is a version of "colored", ie red, blue, green, royalblue, cyan, amber and red-orange. Available in two configurations, one tested and classified at 350mA to 1000mA and the other classified.

As for the white version, are classified as I said in Cool White, Neutral White, Warm White, macrocategoria for each color there are subgroups that distinguish qualitatively the led on the chart of color:

This chart tells us then how you distribute the various groups of color compared to black-body curve (BBL, Black Body Locus), ie the curve of emission of a blackbody radiation.

Qualitatively speaking whites who come to the BBL are certainly better, research Lumileds is in fact trying to minimize the number of Bins color, concentrate their efforts in the neighborhood of the black body curve.

All this tell us? well, be careful when using a product White LEDs, maybe illuminanre a beautiful stone façade of 1600, I choose not limintatevi LED "warm white", but to claim that all the LEDs are in the same production batch, what would happen otherwise? get a beautiful facade multicolor.

In light of the interesting question of the LED components (color, operating temperatures, dissipation, etc..), Given the growing presence of companies that are available with LED fittings in the catalog, which you do not know the production chain and thus guarantee quality, what do you think the issues of performance LED products on which they could make a serious technical comparison between the companies?

Personally, I think it's good practice before you learn all of that company are the LEDs that are assembled to watch the made in china pushed, be wary of who offers to make out of the norm, surely there makeup!
Putting an LED in an exasperated, squeezing the limit, it reduces drastically the performance in terms of average life.
Then ovviamnente the color rendition, if you use LED lighting in architecture or similar, color temperature (usually the very, very high efficiency LED's that have TColor 6000K and above).
Essert I hope I was helpful!

  1. Label of quality for LED | luxemozione - 08. Feb, 2009

[...] Talking about LEDs are definitely the size, technology, energy conservation, but also issues related to the binning or the classification of the LED according to various quality parameters and performance [...]
